چکیده

Aims. We present results from sensitive, high dynamic range, observations to search for extended diffuse radio emission in relaxed and cool-core galaxy clusters. Methods. For this purpose we performed deep 1.4 GHz Very Large Array observations, of A1068, A1413, A1650, A1835, A2029, and complemented our dataset with archival observations of Ophiuchus. Results. We find that in the central regions of A1835, A2029, and Ophiuchus the dominant radio galaxy is surrounded by a diffuse low-brightness radio emission that takes the form of a mini-halo. We detect no diffuse emission in A1650, at a surface brightness level of the other mini-halos. We find low significance indications of diffuse emission in A1068 and A1413, however to be classified as mini-halos they require further investigation, possibly with an even better signal-to-noise ratio. In addition, in the Appendix we report on the serendipitous detection of a giant radio galaxy with a total extension of ∼1.6 Mpc in size.

Comparative analysis of the diffuse radio emission in the galaxy clusters A1835, A2029, and Ophiuchus

Aims. We recently performed a study of a sample of relaxed, cooling core galaxy clusters with deep Very Large Array observations at 1.4 GHz. We find that in the central regions of A1835, A2029, and Ophiuchus the dominant radio galaxy is surrounded by a diffuse low-brightness radio emission that takes the form of a mini-halo. Here we present the results of the analysis of the extended diffuse ra...

The Complex Cooling Core of Abell 2029: Radio and X-ray Interactions

We present an analysis of Chandra observations of the central regions of the cooling flow cluster Abell 2029. We find a number of X-ray filaments in the central 40 kpc, some of which appear to be associated with the currently active central radio galaxy. The outer southern lobe of the steep-spectrum radio source appears to be surrounded by a region of cool gas and is at least partially surround...

What is a Cool - Core Cluster ? A Detailed Analysis of the Cores of the X - ray Flux - Limited HIFLUGCS Cluster Sample

We use the largest complete sample of 64 galaxy clusters (HIghest X-ray FLUx Galaxy Cluster Sample) with available highquality X-ray data from Chandra, and apply 16 cool-core diagnostics to them, some of them new. In order to identify the best parameter for characterizing cool-core clusters and quantify its relation to other parameters, we mainly use very high spatial resolution profiles of cen...

radio emission from the Intracluster medium

An important aspect of the radio emission from galaxy clusters is represented by the diffuse radio sources associated with the intracluster medium: radio halos, relics and mini-halos. The radio halos and relics are indicators of cluster mergers, whereas mini-halos are detected at the center of cooling core clusters. SKA will dramatically improve the knowledge of these sources, thanks to the det...

Gas Sloshing and Bubbles in the Galaxy Group Ngc 5098

We present results from Chandra observations of the galaxy pair and associated galaxy group NGC 5098, and find evidence for both gas sloshing and AGN heating. The X-ray brightness images show diffuse emission with a spiral structure, centered on NGC 5098a, and a sharp edge in the diffuse emission surrounding much of the galaxy at about 30 kpc. The spiral structure in the X-ray surface brightnes...
